Wedeling instead of waiting – ultra-modern 12-seater KOGEL lift // Perfect infrastructure for a possible hosting of the 2025 World Ski Championships

Saalbach-Hinterglemm (OTS)The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn with its 270 kilometers of slopes is not only one of the most versatile ski areas in the entire Alpine region. Thanks to the high level of investment, it also ranks among the absolute leaders in terms of modern infrastructure and is therefore a big step closer to possibly hosting the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2025.

After 26 years, the Zwölferkogelbahn in Hinterglemm was sent into retirement. It was replaced in summer 2019 by a state-of-the-art 10-passenger circulating monocable ropeway (EUB) from Doppelmayr, which uses the new “Omega IV” cabin generation from CWA with interior quenching and now offers winter sports enthusiasts the highest levels of comfort and efficiency. On December 13, the 12-seater KOGEL cable car was officially opened with a ceremony.

With an hourly transport capacity of 3,500 people, after eight months of construction, all winter sports enthusiasts can now say: “Skiing instead of waiting”! The increase in transport capacity of 1,110 passengers per hour eliminates waiting times and the difference in altitude of 918 m from the valley station at 1,066 m to the Zwölferkogel (1,984 m) is overcome in maximum comfort.

Peter Mitterer, Managing Director of Hinterglemm Bergbahnen, announced at the opening ceremony on December 13th: “With the new construction of the Zwölferkogel cable car this year, the trilogy of modernizations of our main feeder lifts came to a crowning conclusion. After the Schönleitenbahn and the Kohlmaisbahn, Hinterglemm’s most frequented cable car is now also fit for the future and is moving up into the league of the top cable cars in the Home of Lässig.”

Managing Director Hans Georg Bachmann is also enthusiastic about the modern system: “The 12-seater KOGEL lift will not be topped in terms of ease of access any time soon. The skis go into the cabin with you, offering easy and comfortable access.”

Ready for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2025
Upgrades have also been made with a view to possibly hosting the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2025. “The new ÖSV training center on the Zwölferkogel offers the perfect conditions for athletes preparing for their races on the permanent training course. In addition to separate entrances, the new facilities offer a lounge, changing rooms and toilets exclusively for athletes and coaches. With regard to major events, the building also has the necessary infrastructure such as a meeting room and timekeeping room. Reporters’ booths can be installed on the roof without any major effort or additional structures”explains Hans Georg Bachmann. The decision on the venue for the 2025 World Cup will be made in May 2020.

With the official opening on December 13, not only the invited guests of honor, but also numerous winter sports enthusiasts were able to enjoy a comfortable ascent on the new 12-seater KOGEL lift. The live performance at the mountain station, a foretaste of the White Pearl Mountain Days from March 20 to April 5, 2020, also attracted many music fans to the Zwölferkogel. An all-round successful kick-off for the new cable car and the start of the 2019/20 winter season!

We would like to thank Bergbahnen Saalbach-Hinterglemm for their many years of trust in our office and wish them every success with the new 12-seater Kogelbahn.
