24 Apr 8EUB ALBONABAHN I
The Albona/Valfagehr ski area in Stuben am Arlberg is a varied ski area for anyone looking for unlimited fun on the slopes and is also known far beyond the borders of Vorarlberg as the free-ride paradise on the Arlberg. Guaranteed snow and long north-facing slopes offer maximum skiing enjoyment on the mountain where the famous skiing pioneer Hannes Schneider learned to ski. The ski area in the west of the Arlberg offers excellent snow and piste conditions until late spring, making it an important part of the world-famous Arlberg Ski Arena. Via the Albonabahn I and its piste connection to the “Alpe Rauz”, you can also reach the ski areas of St. Anton, St. Christoph, Zürs and Lech.
The existing fixed-grip double chairlift Albonabahn I, which was built in 1983 in Stuben am Arlberg, will be replaced this year by a modern monocable gondola lift with closed operating equipment (gondolas with a capacity of 8 people). In future, the new monocable gondola lift will transport passengers both uphill and downhill and is designed for a transport capacity of 1600 passengers per hour.
The renowned cable car planning office Melzer & Hopfner is responsible for the planning and design of the valley and mountain station buildings, coordination with the authorities and design supervision.
The location of the new valley station and the route remain almost the same. The new mountain station is about 200m towards the valley, right next to the existing mountain restaurant “Albona Mitte”.
Melzer & Hopfner brings nature and technology into harmony. For example, when designing and positioning the valley and mountain station buildings, care was taken to ensure optimum integration into the surrounding terrain. The buildings impress with their restrained, high-quality design and blend harmoniously into the landscape.
Construction work will begin in May and be completed in November 2023.
