After more than two decades of operation, the traditional funicular at the M\u00fchlenkopfschanze in Willingen is coming to an end. It will now be replaced by the ultra-modern “M\u00fchlenkopfliner” inclined elevator – a pioneering project that will significantly increase visitor comfort on the world’s largest ski jump. <\/p>

Melzer & Hopfner was commissioned with the planning of the new inclined elevator and the overall structural engineering design<\/strong>. Our focus was on clear, timeless architecture<\/strong> that combines functionality, accessibility and harmonious integration into the natural surroundings. <\/p>

Highlights of the project:<\/strong><\/h3>
  • Significantly increased capacity:<\/strong> 50 instead of the previous 20 people per cabin – up to 350 people per hour (previously approx. 100).<\/li>
  • Accessibility:<\/strong> Fully accessible for guests with reduced mobility and families with baby carriages.<\/li>
  • Autonomous operation:<\/strong> modern emergency call and monitoring systems ensure maximum safety.<\/li>
  • Sustainability:<\/strong> photovoltaic system, energy recovery during braking and conversion of heating systems to energy-efficient air heat.<\/li>
  • Architecture:<\/strong> Modern emergency call and monitoring systems ensure maximum safety and unattended operation.

    The M\u00fchlenkopfliner is a central component of the overall tourism concept<\/strong> in Willingen – together with attractions such as the “Skywalk” suspension bridge, a planned fly-line and an educational forest trail. Commissioning is planned for summer 2026<\/strong>. <\/p>
