A new milestone in modern cable car infrastructure is being established at Katschberg. The aging 3-seater chairlift to the Aineck is being replaced by a state-of-the-art 8-passenger gondola lift <\/strong>\u2013 offering significantly greater comfort, capacity, and operational reliability, even under extreme wind conditions. <\/p>

From Frosty Chairlift to Wind-Resistant Comfort Gondola<\/strong><\/p>

The existing lift system, built in 1980 and last renovated in 1987, had long been a weak point in the ski area. The exposed route at an elevation of 2,210 meters frequently led to operational shutdowns on windy days. These challenges were directly addressed in the planning of the new Almbahn: <\/p>

  • Wind resistance up to 80 km\/h<\/strong><\/li>
  • Integrated additional weights of 160 kg in the cabin floors for increased stability<\/strong><\/li>
  • Enclosed cabins for improved riding comfort in all weather conditions

    <\/strong><\/li><\/ul>

    Another key factor in the decision to build a gondola lift was the possibility of year-round operation. The new system will be in use not only in winter but also in summer<\/strong> \u2013 opening up additional opportunities for tourism in the Katschberg region.<\/p>

    Planning began back in 2019 with the cable car planning office Melzer & Hopfner<\/strong>. Implementation was postponed due to the pandemic \u2013 making it all the more gratifying that construction is now set to begin in May 2025. Completion and commissioning are scheduled for the end of November 2025.<\/strong> <\/p>

      The architectural design follows a minimalist, functional approach that blends harmoniously into the landscape \u2013 taking into account both regional building traditions and technical requirements. Special attention was paid to the valley station, where part of the existing structure will be preserved and aesthetically integrated with the new construction to form a cohesive whole. <\/p>
